A large QEP selection leadership team helped guide the Quality Enhancement Plan topic selection process. That team was made up of students, faculty, staff and community members. Once the topic was selected, the QEP implementation team was formed to move UNT Career Connect from proposal to plan to action. This is the group responsible for ongoing QEP activities from 2015 through the SACSCOC site visit in March 2016.
Dr. Mike Simmons, Assistant Vice President - Academic Affairs and Director for the UNT Career Connect QEP. Ph.D. in public administration, University of Texas at Arlington; M.P.A., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; BA in history, King College. Dr. Simmons will build the team responsible for implementing UNT Career Connect. He led UNT's previous QEP - Next Generation Course Redesign ProgramTM as Sr. Associate Director of the Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign.
Dr. Traci Cihon, Assistant Professor of Behavior Analysis (College of Public Affairs and Community Service), Ph.D. in special education/applied behavior analysis, Ohio State University; MA in psychology/behavior analysis, University of Nevada-Reno; BA in psychology, Washington University.
Dr. James Conover, Professor of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law (College of Business), BS in animal science from Cornell University; MS in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University.
Dr. Brian Lain, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Director of Debate, with tenure; Ph.D. in communication studies, University of Iowa; MA in speech-communication, Wayne State University; BA in anthropology, Wake Forest University. Dr. Lain teaches argument and rhetoric. He has served with the National Communication Association, the Committee on International Discussion and Debate, and the Cross Examination Debate Association.
Dr. Karen Anderson-Lain, Senior Lecturer and Basic Communication Course Director (Communication Studies Department); Ph.D. in communication studies, University of Kansas; MA in communication studies, Texas Tech University; BA in English literature and speech communication, Washburn University. Dr. Anderson-Lain redesigned Introduction to Communication (COMM 1010) as part of the UNT Next Generation Course Redesign Program for the previous Quality Enhancement Plan for SACS COC reaccreditation.
Dr. Jean Keller, Professor of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation; Ed. D in Higher Education, University of Georgia; MS in Recreation Therapy, Florida State University; BS in Recreation Therapy, Florida State University. Dr. Keller administers grants focused on college and career readiness.
Stephanie Knight, Director, Center for Leadership and Service; MS in Higher Education Administration, Florida State University; BA in Theatre Arts, Texas A&M University. Ms. Knight directs efforts in the development of leadership skills, service and social issue engagement of UNT students.
Dan Naegeli, Executive Director, Career and Leadership Services; MS in community counseling, University of Central Arkansas; BA in psychology, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Mr. Naegeli provides strategic oversight to the Career Center, the Center for Leadership & Service, the Student Money Management Center and the Office of Disability Accommodations.
Patrick Smith, Director of Local Outreach at Denton Bible Church and Board Secretary for Serve Denton; MS in engineering management and strategic studies, Air University; BS in civil engineering, United States Air Force Academy. Mr. Smith is a retired Air Force Colonel with 24 years of service. At Denton Bible Church, he builds bridges with the community and develops spiritual relationships. He serves on UNT’s Community Engagement Advisory Council, and supports the community engagement efforts of the College of Public Administration and Community Service.
Margarita Venegas, University Media Relations Manager; BA in journalism, University of North Texas. Ms. Venegas leads the Media Relations team in the University Relations, Communications and Marketing division at UNT. This team supports the university’s strategic initiatives and goals and coordinates media coverage of university news.
Dr. Celia Williamson, Associate Vice President for Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives, Ph.D. and M.S.S.W. in Social Work, University of Texas at Arlington; BS in Social Work, Abilene Christian University. Dr. Williamson worked with the UNT faculty in the 2008 renewal of the UNT Core Curriculum and has served on statewide committees and boards related to general education, undergraduate curriculum enhancement and alignment.
